The fight with/against/for technology.

So a while back, I was at a real estate conference. It was so good that I forgot the topic. However, what I did remember was the part in the program where the instructor told us we had to take 15 minutes before lunch break and call (like, on the telephone, dialing numbers, using vocal chords, the whole nine yards) at least five people and ask them if they or anyone they knew were interested in talking real estate.

Now, for everyone 30ish years of age and up, this was a simple task. Dial, speak, converse, hang up. Me? Not so much. My palms started to get sweaty, my voice would get really loud leaving voice messages...I was a wreck. "This is SO not how I communicate with ANYONE," I thought. My thumbs felt neglected for those fifteen minutes from lack of texting. So I left a few voice messages for some friends and left it at that. I do consider myself a professional, and can certainly make a phone call, but my "sphere" (all of my friends and family, and you) communicates primarily via text messaging and email. Agreed? Agreed.

Since I got into this career of selling homes, I've found the technology aspect of it all quite tedious. I'm what some would call a "people person"; I really do enjoy and gain energy from hanging out with others. When given a choice between writing a blog entry about how great interest rates are versus going to happy hour with friends who I can talk to about the insanely low interest rates... no brainer, cheap beer and friends win every time.

Don't get me wrong -- I love me some MacBook Pro action and Siri is totally my new best friend. But can you blame me for just wanting to hang out with people and also help them with the home-buying process, instead of sitting at my desk, staring out at all the BMWs in the parking lot?

So do me a favor: go to my Facebook page and take my poll on how you want info from me on house-buying stuff. And maybe I'll buy you a cheap beer at TJ's Everday and we can hang.
